5 Best Ways For A FTP Player To Spend Glowbucks

So after compiling a guide on the different ways to earn free Glowbucks, I thought it would be nice to have an article about the best ways to spend them. Since Glowbucks are so limited, we would definitely want to make the most out of them.

Before I start, I would like to add a disclaimer that these are only my views. Just imagine that this review is from the perspective of a stingy-ass player who does not like to spend cash on games, but yet wants the best of everything for free. Everyone has their own opinions, so feel free to disagree with them~!

Lets begin with something that tops the list...

No. 1
Limited Edition Items

Why is this listed as the best thing to spend Glowbucks on? Well, the name says it all. Limited edition items are stuffs that are only available for a certain period of time. Once you missed the opportunity to grab it, it's gone forever.

Currently, there are 2 different types of limited edition items:
1. Event Hampers
2. Last exclusive decoration earned from perfecting an event set within the event duration

1. Event Hampers

These are usually on sale in the Shop during an event, and you can buy them with Glowbucks. Each hamper contains a decoration with a special ability. If you do not purchase the event hamper, you will lose the chance to collect the decoration when the event ends.

Although sometimes the ability of the decoration may be quite useless (eg. the ability to add a rose trail by the Red Rose in the Valentine's Heartfelt Hamper), you may want to consider buying it anyway because once you miss it, chances are you will never be able to see it ever again.

It is a good idea to always keep a handful of Glowbucks, especially when you spot an upcoming event on the in-game calendar. You do not want to walk into an event empty handed and suddenly find that you cannot purchase an event hamper because you do not have enough Glowbucks. They do take some time to accumulate and save up.

2. Exclusive Decorations from Event Sets

To earn the 3rd and last exclusive decoration from an event, you need to perfect all moths in the set within the event duration. If you missed the event, or did not perfect the entire set in time, it is only possible to earn the 1st and 2nd decoration when you finally finish the set in future. It is unlikely that Runaway will repeat events, therefore once you miss the opportunity to get the last exclusive decoration, it is gone forever.

The last exclusive decoration usually has a useful ability which may help with future gameplay (especially Egg Layers). This makes it worthwhile to invest some time and effort into the event.

It is possible to complete events without spending cash or Glowbucks. However, if time is not on your side, you may need to spend some Glowbucks to speed up your progress. If you ever decide to use your Glowbucks to make purchases, always compare the prices before buying anything. Check the cost of all available options and see which is the cheapest:

  • Buy an event flower directly from the flora inventory (10% / 20% / 50% / 100%)
  • Buy a Golden Net (Wisp events) for a guaranteed 10% flower of your choice
  • Lay an egg directly from a moth
  • Hurry a decoration ability that allows you to lay an egg / capture a wisp (if you are rushed for time)
  • Gambling on a chance to get the event flower you need by hurrying the Wisp Mother or buying an event firefly

No. 2
Level Up Your First Pollen Flower

It costs 75 Glowbucks to fully upgrade a pollen flower (details here). If you are low on Glowbucks, I would recommended that you upgrade at least one of your pollen flowers to Level 5, and leave the rest of your flowers alone until you can afford to level them up.

Why? This is because:

1) You spend a lot lesser coins for the same amount of pollen produced

A fully upgraded pollen flower helps you make the most out of your honeydew coins while producing pollen. In the long run, having a Level 5 pollen flower helps you to save on a lot coins as compared to making pollen from flowers at lower levels. With all these coins saved, you can put them to better use like buying shop deals or expanding your forest.

2) One flower can do it all!

Pollen is held in your forest and not in individual pollen flowers. Although the amount of pollen you can hold in your forest depends on how many flowers you have, it does not mean that each flower can only produce or hold 1000 pollen. Even when you have several pollen flowers in your forest, you can just use 1 pollen flower to produce pollen until you reach the total maximum amount of pollen you can hold.

Therefore, with a bit of patience, you can simply rely on a single fully upgraded pollen flower to produce all the pollen you need.

This is a low cost but time consuming method to pollen making. You can also set aside more Glowbucks to upgrade the rest of your pollen flowers, but that would mean you have lesser Glowbucks to spend on important things like events and visiting moths, which also happens to be No. 3!

No. 3
Visiting Moths

Visiting Moths make it possible for players to collect moths and decoration abilities from past events. If you have missed out some of the previous events, you can use Glowbucks to pay Visiting Moths to lay eggs. This helps you to complete past event sets for decoration rewards.

In Starlight, moths do not have abilities. Only event decorations have special abilities, which makes them so valuable and highly sought after.

No. 4
Premium Decorations

These decorations have special abilities, some of which are pretty useful at enhancing gameplay.

Most of them can be purchased with Glowbucks, with the exception of the Red Slipper and Star Lotus.

I would say that the Red Plumeria is a must get for all players, it speeds up the rate of forest expansion by a lotttttttt, even when it only clears one-fifth of an expansion foliage per use. It is the most valuable free deco among the premium set because it clears expansion foliage regardless of the cost. Therefore the more pricey your next expansion is, the more honeydew coins you save with this deco.

If you are short on Glowbucks, do not fret because Premium Decorations rotate in the shop and will be available again after 6 weeks.

No. 5
Sending Extra Gifts

I had a hard time pondering at which is better, spending Glowbucks to send extra gifts or buying a Bumblebee from the shop?

In the end, I decided to go with gifting because getting a Bumblebee is just a secondary option to speed up pollen making. Although a bee can give you an extra 676 pollen over 20 hours, you can also sit at your phone for 40 minutes to make the same amount of pollen with a fully upgraded flower at a low cost of 375 honeydew coins (by selecting the cheapest pollen making option). If you have 6 fully upgraded pollen flowers, the time needed is simply reduced to 7 minutes.

The reason why I chose gifting for No. 5, is because it can potentially take months and years to unlock all Apoyo moths, especially if you do not have friends who selected you as their Inviter. To show you that I am not exaggerating, here is the math:

It takes 4605 social points to unlock the 4th Apoyo moth.

Sharing a moth on Facebook daily: +2 points

Sending 5 free gifts daily: +5 points

Total amount of days to reach the end of level 40:
4605 / 7 = 658

That's six hundred and fifty eight days! Even if you have a Gift Resetter that allows you to send 25 free gifts in 3 days, you still need a minimum of 446 days! That's over a year!!!

The best time to splurge on Glowbucks for gifting, is during a Double Social Points event. During the event, each gift sent gives you 2 points instead of 1, so you are essentially paying 1 Glowbuck per social point.

If you spend a bunch of Glowbucks on gifting, make sure you activate a Gift Resetter so you can double the total amount of gifts sent the next day! Read more here.

The more gifts you send, the more your friends will love you. Who doesn't like receiving presents? xD
