Firefly Events: What You Need To Know & Do

Screenshot by Makaylah McCrossen

During firefly events in Starlight, event fireflies will be available. Collect honeydew from your moths to make these fireflies pop up, and feed them to Trevor for event flowers in order to attract the special flutters in the set!

Why are there so few event fireflies?

Chances are you are doing things wrong. During the event a preset number of event treats will spawn at regular intervals. Some people call this a Flush Cycle. You will need to find out how long is the cycle for the particular event and how many fireflies spawn at each cycle.

For the previous Osten event, 3 event fireflies spawn every 3 hours. Later Runaway shortened the cycle to 2 hours. The Fan Rong event had 4 purple treats every 3 hours. Luckily, there are helpful players in online communities who will share these information, so look out for them! :)

(The current trend for flush cycles in firefly events are 4 event treats after 3 hours.)

How to finish the event without spending real money?

1) Set alarms

Keep coming back into the game after each cycle to collect your fireflies. The fireflies don’t accumulate offline so even if you come back into the game after a day or two, you only complete 1 cycle and have to wait for the next one again. Set a timer, or an alarm so you don’t forget.

2) Have a couple of unleveled moths with the shortest cooldown times

After each cycle, when you come back into the game, you will be wanting to collect all of the event fireflies, so you need to trigger as many harvests as possible till you get them all.

Unleveled beginner moths (eg. Yellow Furry Legs) have short cooldowns and you can harvest them every few seconds. In case you are missing the last firefly spawn, you can stay in the game and keep harvesting till it drops into your forest. This also means that you need not worry about collecting your honeydew before the flush cycle is complete. You can even collect all event treats from a single Yellow Furry Leg from multiple harvests every few seconds!

3) Clear your Cage regularly

The fireflies will not spawn if Trevor's treat cage is stuffed full. The maximum number of treats it can hold is 10, and this applies to both purple and normal fireflies. So for example if you have 4 purple fireflies and 6 normal fireflies, the new event treats cannot spawn.

If your cage is full, you will get a notification to clear it whenever a firefly tries to spawn. When that happens, you have lost a firefly. You will then have to wait for the next flush cycle to get more.

4) Pick up the event treats before they poof

When I didn't pay attention to my game and left my purple fireflies hanging around in the forest, they disappeared when I came back! Just in case I was imagining things, I tested it out by leaving a few of them alone after a flush. When I re-login a few minutes later, they were gone once more! So make sure to collect them immediately and store them in your cage!

5) Concentrate on the Rarest & Hardest moth first, and work backwards

Save your egg laying abilities or glowbucks for the last legendary creature first. Then work backwards as you progress in the event. If you are able to complete the hardest moth within the event, chances are you should have no problem tackling the rest of the set.

6) Keep making pollen

To perfect the entire set, you need to hatch and grow 5 copies of each moth, then fuse them together and feed them with pollen till they hit max Level 5. So naturally you will be needing a whole ton of pollen.

Keep making pollen till you burst your pollen capacity even if your creatures are not ready for feeding yet, so when they finally emerge you can make them feast immediately.

If you are low on honeydew, I suggest that you concentrate on using the cheapest pollen option only, they accumulate pretty fast every 30 seconds and you won’t blow a hole in your pocket, instead all you need is some patience and time.

7) Prepare in advance, plan ahead

For events with short durations, save up your special abilities before the event starts so you can make the most out of them.

8) Buying attraction flowers vs Egg Laying

In case you are running out of time, or simply just want that last 10% flower so you can cook your next egg, you can choose to buy event flowers with Glow/Flutterbucks. Go to your flower inventory and select a particular flower to see how much it costs. So if you have a handful of bucks saved up from watching all that Florida Tree Snail videos, you can put them to good use!

Before you spend anything, remember to compare costs between buying flowers / paying to lay an egg / paying to hurry an egg layer ability, to see which one is cheaper and more cost effective.

10%? 20%? 50%? 100%?

Each to its own. I personally collect all treats and use 100% event attraction flowers only. 50% or lower percentage flowers have a tendency to be evil... veryyyyy evil. :K

Hopefully this helps you along in your Starlight Firefly event journey~! If you have other tips, or if I missed out anything, do share and I’ll try to revise this guide accordingly.

Happy Starry Fluttering~! ♥
